The wait is nearly over for Macintosh users who have been waiting for Wizards of the Coast's Magic: The Gathering - Arena game to finally release on the platform as the company unveils plans to do just that on June 25.
The game will be available for Mac via Epic Games Store and will feature full cross-platform support in parity with Windows version. This will include the upcoming release of Core Set 2021. WotC says current players will find the same cards, formats, events, play queues, and features on the macOS version as they can on the previously-released Windows version, though not everything will be exactly the same.
"If you previously played MTG Arena, you'll be able to log into the game using your existing Wizards Account information and credentials to access your current collection, including cards, sleeves, gold, and gems," says the company in the official release. "A separate Epic Games Store account is required to download the macOS client."
As for why WotC is going through Epic Games Store rather than having its own stand-alone computer program as they do on Windows, the company says it's because they already have an existing relationship with Epic and going through them is the quickest way they could get a native, full-featured macOS client available for digital Magic players on Mac.
