Wizards of the Coast has unveiled the 2022 premier set release schedule for Magic: The Gathering.

With the announcements, Magic: The Gathering is getting a little of something new and a little of something old as the game ventures towards its 30th anniversary.

In order, the sets are:

  • Kamigawa Neon Dynasty, which takes place 2,000 years after the events of the original Kamigawa block.  WotC teased cyber ninjas, the inclusion of a known planeswalker, and that the plane's new daimyo is a familiar face.  It's due for release in the first quarter of 2022.
  • Streets of New Capenna, which is a gangster/crime family themed set.  There will be five three-color factions, each with unique keywords.  It's on a new plane that's said to have been created by angels (but times have since changed).  WotC also says the plane has a special connection to the planeswalker Elpseth.  The set releases in 2022's second quarter.
  • Dominaria United brings MTG back to its original plane.  The high-fantasy set kicks off Magic: The Gathering's 30th anniversary celebration in the third quarter of 2022.
  • The Brothers' War takes MTG almost all the way back to the beginning by focusing on the plane-shattering war between Urza and Mishra.  Featuring artifacts, giant mechs, and more, the set is due out in the final quarter of 2022.
