Like Bloomburrow, Duskmourn has a showcase area at MagicCon Las Vegas.
And, like with Bloomburrow, the Duskmourn experience was immersive.
Overall, the 1980s horror aesthetic was there, with vintage TVs running scenes from the series. Like Bloomburrow having a mini-scavenger hunt for attendees, Duskmourn did too, but with a bit more of a feel to it. This included using darklights to find hidden clues amongst stacks of 80s horror fiction.
A few life size figures of characters from the expansion were there, with a number of Wizards of the Coast employees were also around, as the Duskmourn experience was proving to be a bit complicated.
But they also knocked the feel of it out of the park. Horror gothic styles were everywhere from the chairs to the decorations.
However, Duskmourn's presence at the convention wasn't as much as Bloomburrow was, or even the upcoming set, Foundations. Besides the experience and a few photo ops here and there, Duskmourn was very limited, as compared to Bloomburrow who had entire sections still around and Foundations who had non-stop announcements during the convention.
While employees at the convention didn't want to say how popular it had been, a number trading card sellers and venders said that it hadn't been big, even with Halloween coming near.
"Duskmourn hasn't been very popular," said Nicole Stewart of Gryphon's Den. "I wouldn't exactly compare it to Thunder Junction, as we did get some Halloween traffic from it. But it hasn't been all that popular. [Modern] Horizons III and Bloomburrow. Those were the big ones this year. Especially with younger players."
She continued, saying that any thought there was just going to be another Bloomburrow set after this and then got Duskmourn.
"It was too creepy for all the new players who came in, who continue to play it," she commented. "You mentioned Bloomburrow having more of a presence here and that's why."
Robert, another vendor, also added "Duskmourn has been selling, but it has been niche -- like Karlov Manor. Bloomburrow sold a lot more, like Ixalan did last year, or Lord of the Rings.
"I'll put it this way, We had to reorder Bloomburrow binders and things multiple times," he continued "Duskmourn we are still on the one order. But, I will say for next year, people are already asking about Tarkir and Lorwyn things, so that's exciting. Anything that feels more like fantasy has been the big sellers. So hopefully Foundations."
