Seasonal Sequels: The 2023 Magic: The Gathering Holiday Card

WOTC

The 18th holiday card for Magic: The Gathering has been unveiled.

After all, holiday cards have been a long-standing tradition with Magic: The Gathering.

Every year since 2006, through recessions and pandemics, Wizards of the Coast has put one out around the Christmas season. Almost always they are a twist on a favorite Magic card of the past and/or feature long-standing characters in a holiday themed area.

Since 2006, we have seen stocking tigerskiller fruitcakes, and other things either based off an existing card and Christmas-ized, or being a wholly original card. Last year there was Chaos Wrap,  which is based off Chaos Warp.

That sort of thing is the norm for these cards, and if  you managed to collect all of them by now, with a lot of mana cards, you could create an entirely holiday themed deck for your casual games.

Seasonal Sequels is not a send-up of an earlier card, but rather a Fblthp going to/past a movie theater. The iconic Christmas movies Elf, Die Hard, Home Alone, Eight Crazy Nights, Holiday Inn, and Gremlins are all either name-checked or lampooned.

What ever will the folks at WotC come up with next year?
