Wizards of the Coast may have just put out their most unique Magic: The Gathering apology ever.
Back in January 2026, Lorwyn Eclipsed players got something of a surprise - prerelease events accidently included a few odd Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cards in them. As TMNT wasn't set to release until March, everyone was a bit thrown off. While some players had conspiracy theories about this ranging from wanting to get people excited about an IP over an original set to blatant advertising, the real reason was simple error.
As we reported, WotC had to put out an entire press release explaining the snafu. However, Magic being Magic, Wizards really wanted to press just how much of a mistake this. Errors in the past have been highlighted in ways by the company before, from mentions to this day of the whole Wyvern cardback debacle to them just rolling with errors and just making it part of the lore.
And this one was a bit unique. Since the debut, Magic has teamed up with the Jim Henson company to not only have the new boggart characters of Squen and Cragg have one of the most craziest trailers in the history of the company, but the have continued to use them for a series of shorts to not only show off Lorwyn Eclipsed, but also comment on things like the Milan Olympics. They have actually turned out to be pretty popular, with many fans wanting them to be permanent, or at least have cards made of them.
And, look, Muppets are not exactly cheap, so when they post another one of these shorts, encircled around a fake podcast the two are hosting, you can bet Wizards has a reason for it. And, a few weeks after the prerelease error and some fans still grumbling, they devoted an entire short to the characters commenting on it as sort of an extended apology.

What makes this especially interesting is that one of the puppeteers, Kevin Clash (who plays Cragg), actually played Shredder back in the day in the TMNT movies. So when he says he wants to keep it...and does the voice... it is killing several birds with one stone.

Wizards has had a long history of apologies for mistakes in the past. But they went the extra mile with this one, especially since it pretty much doubles as advertisements for two sets as well.
