MTG's Universes Beyond set, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth, to release June 2023

The first full set release in Magic: The Gathering's controversial Universes Beyond line, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth, is coming out June 23, 2023.

The first full set release in Magic: The Gathering's controversial Universes Beyond line, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth, is coming out June 23, 2023, with preorders already being accepted.  Additional products for the set are expected out Nov. 3, just in time for the holiday rush.

Hobbits, Elves, and Uruk-hai alike will be able to join in the adventures found within author J.R.R. Tolkien's magical world of Middle-Earth in both a modern-legal set, Jumpstart boosters, as well as collection of four commander decks.

Magic: The Gathering - Arena will also be receiving digital The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth cards to match the set's paper release.  Wizards of the Coast says, on Arena, the cards will be legal in Alchemy and Historic only.

In the meantime, here are some important dates for the set:

  • First Look: March 14
  • Debut: May 30
  • Prerelease: June 16
  • MTG Arena Release: June 20
  • Tabletop Release: June 23
  • Holiday Release (more details to come): November 3
