Wizards of the Coast has announced the next Marvel-branded Universes Beyond set for Magic: The Gathering.
Called Marvel Darkhold Destiny, the set is about monsters, magic, demons, sorcerers, and all things on the darker mythological/arcane side of Marvel's comic books.
"Marvel is broad in its universe and there's something for everyone," says set art director Meredith Muldrony. "Some kids go to the comic book store and they want The Avengers and some kids go in wanting something a little more dark and a little more creepy and that's what we have here."
In the set's debut trailer, artwork can be seen that includes the flaming skull anti-hero Ghost Rider, The Mighty Thor, Doctor Strange, and the vampire hunter, Blade. Some villains showcased in the video include Dormammu, the complicated Scarlett Witch, and Hela, the tyrannical Goddess of Death.
"Since we knew we were doing the magic side of Marvel and we are Magic: The Gathering, it's a little on the nose to be like, well, how do we make this the most Magic thing possible," comments Dillon Deveney, the set's narrative lead.

The folks behind the set say that Marvel allowed them to take their own look at magical worlds and lore and lay that into this upcoming Marvel Comics Magic set.
"Because we were approaching this as a more Magic-themed set, we were able to redesign our characters a little bit," adds Amanda Barker, senior product designer at Marvel.
Everything in the set is based around a massive battle being called "Darkhold Destiny."
Marvel Darkhold Destiny is scheduled for release April 8, 2027.
