Wizards of the Coast has added QR code-enabled registration for Magic: The Gathering events to EventLink.
In the past, players wanting to register for Magic: The Gathering events at their local game stores had to do so by manually entering an alphanumeric code in their Magic Companion smartphone app. Now, they can do so by scanning a QR code with their smartphone's camera.
"This new enrollment method eliminates the need for players to manually enter an event code into the Magic Companion app, reducing the number of those who need registration assistance from store staff," says the company.
Beyond being simply visible on event screens, the codes can also be copied and included in emails, images, signage, and more.
"From the players' side, the process of registering is simpler than ever: They scan an event QR code using the Magic Companion app to automatically register for it and be placed in the Magic Companion lobby," says WotC.
The company says they hope the addition of QR codes for event registration makes things easier for both event organizers and participants alike.
