MagicCon Las Vegas 2025: Final Fantasy and Edge of Eternities

MagicCon 2025 Las Vegas begins - with a Final Fantasy bend.

MagicCon Las Vegas 2025 kicked off on June 20th in Las Vegas, with hundreds and hundreds of attendees waiting outside in the hot desert heat to get in. Already, it looks like a new attendance record could be broken, with the previous MagicCon record being at around 15,000 last year. The main theme for the second Magic convention this year was Final Fantasy, with a large dose of Edge of Eternities mixed in.

Once in, Final Fantasy made it's mark, with gates from Final Fantasy 7, a posing station with the Buster Sword, and various other FF nods set up throughout, including Blitzball. Merchandise by vendors like UltraPro was also heavily FF-oriented, with many exclusives causing lines to go well past several other vendors.

And, while it wasn't the main set there, the preview panel showed off Edge of Eternities and what was to come later this summer. Many cards were revealed, as were many surprises.

The return of shock lands wowed many in the audience, the the developers stating that a space-themed world was best to bring them back. The sheer scale of the artwork also amazed many, with those behind the art revealing borderless land artwork and spaceships in each showing off scale.

The Edge of Eternities story was also hinted at, with 11 episodes and 5 side stories being planned for release. Plus, for the first time, the story will be professionally narrated.

The return of Tezzert in EOE excited many, as did the major rule change of allowing spaceships and artifact vehicles to be the commander.

As for the rest of the convention, the usual vendors were there, with the notable addition of Square Enix now having a booth thanks to the heightened video game presence. Artist's Row was also there as usual.

As for other sets and expansion, recent ones were also well represented. Dragon art and popups from Tarkir: Dragonstorm were everywhere. Aetherdrift was represented too, with themed slot car games in the arcade to each of the three planes it went too.

The Bloomburrow exhibit from MagicCon 2024 was also back, although slightly modified to create a new game for visitors. The latter was also notable for being right next to the family area, which was heavily themed around Bloomburrow as well, and from what employees said, will likely be the case for some time.

And that was only day one. For the Las Vegas MagicCon, they are still celebrating past sets and expansions, while focusing on the most recent and looking to what is coming next. Oh, and Chocobos.
