New details on some of the 2026 set were revealed at MagicCon Las Vegas 2025.
More details, as well as artwork, were revealed for the first two sets of 2026 at MagicCon Las Vegas, starting with their names. What was known as "Return to Lorwyn" and "Return to Arcavios" are now officially Lorwyn Eclipsed and Secrets of Strixhaven.
Plenty was also revealed about what was to be expected from Lorwyn Eclipsed. During the major panel on the convention's Mana Stage, the Magic team said that the Lorwyn we will see will have a sort of blend of day and night. As the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor sets were split into two blocks back in 2007 and 2008, with each block there focusing on night and day, respectively, the new melding of the two will have us return to a different yet similar Lorwyn. Lorwyn and Shadowmoor would simply be "closer together", with elves there being not so high and mighty now and a bit more attune to the world. And, as creators joked in an after panel, they are not returning to blocks.
The art itself will also be very similar to the original Lorwyn. Only two pieces were released at MagicCon, but both were very reminiscent the set while also showing off the melding of the day and night. When asked about certain artists, like Rebecca Guay, returning for the set at a after panel, the set's art director, Sarah Wassell, simply said that this art would be much like what was found in the original, heavily hinting but not confirming that original Lorwyn artists would be back beyond the two pieces released.
As Lorwyn and Shadowmoor are co-existing, the creators also noted in an after panel that Magic has grown in the nearly two decades since the originals came out, specifically noting how there was no Commander format when it originally came out, and that it will now have that as a way to play. The release will also be for January 2026.
As for Secrets of Strixhaven, not much beyond the name was revealed, although there were hits of a mystery aspect to it.
Future 2026 announcements were scant, although Wizards of the Coast President John Hight specifically mentioned when, going through all the different worlds, Bloomburrow. As for confirmed things, Hight announced the 2026 MagicCon lineup, with Las Vegas being May 1-3, 2026, followed by a return to Amsterdam in July, and than finishing off in September in Atlanta.
All in all, what was revealed at MagicCon shows a return to more classic Magic, at least in early 2026, with a renewed focus on Europe.
