The 2026 Las Vegas MagicCon held one of it's most anticipated events on Friday - the Preview Panel.
There, Magic showed off all of it's upcoming sets going into the fall of 2026.
The Hobbit

Presented by Principal Game Designer Annie Sardelis and Creative Lead Nick Marcantel, it was shown by going through the story of the book. And, off the bat, while there is (so far) only one hobbit announced along with one dragon and a few elves and humans, the set is loaded with dwarves. Card previews confirmed this:

Both Nick and Annie were also excited to show that there are returning characters from the original Lord of the Rings set such as includng Elrond.

And Smiegel/Gollum:

And the one ring would have it's Hobbit counterpart too, as shown by the My Precious card.

As seen above, the extended art versions have their own unique LOTR flair with the Dragon Hoard cardframe. Pretty much anything of in-universe value (i.e. something golden) gets the treatment, and was one of the more hyped details of the cards.
Also excitedly announced was the return of wood elves, a rare UB/original point of convergence. As the first such card was introduced in 1997 with Portal, this new one would continue on the long standing card with a UB twist. Literal characters that work in Magic or Lord of the Rings.

However, the character of the set was not Bilbo or Gandalf, but Smaug. In a Magic first, the headliner card of an expansion would be the villain. And judging by the applause this got, it is no wonder.

That above dragon hoard frame got the most oohs-and-aahhhs of the presentation...that is until the next card was shown...

As Nick put it "We wanted to make it look like the card came from his hoard."
Annie added "It has everything. Flying. Haste. 4/3."
Fans around were also excitedly talking about winning as Smaug and beating the dwarves, which, that is really the spirit of Magic.
Also highlighted were book cover cards and artifacts, as shown with the Arkenstone.

Full art Middle Earth journey lands, as well as Bloomburrow-style seasonal lands:

Then there was also the return of boxtoppers. While not all were shown, these were all fan favorites returning. Tom Bombadil. Sauron, and, to much fan applause, the One Ring. Plus some Dwarvish language cards thrown in too.

Prerelease is set for August 7th, with wide release on August 14th. Some products, however, won't be available until 2027, such as the multi-player Battle of Five Earths co-op it.

Reality Fracture
Up next was Reality Fracture, with Mark Rosewater and Meris Mullaley.

Reality Fracture was introduced, with it becoming clear to most that this would be a mix of a much corrected Planar Chaos with the TV show WandaVision. Essentially, Jace Beleren is feeling bad about all the strife and conflict of the past, and strives to make an alternate reality to correct these mistakes....only to become a villain as his great new reality is really a dystopia: The Echoverse.
As highlighted, Strixhaven is now known as Hexhaven. While the creators said that this was for player familiarity through recent sets, many said that Lorwyn Eclipsed/Secrets of Strixhaven/Reality Fracture are all now part of an unofficial block.
Keep an eye out later this week for an entire article all about Reality Fracture.
Marvel Super Heroes
Finally, there was Marvel Super Heroes. Unlike the other two, the fan reaction was a lot more muted, with many shaking heads or not clapping at all. One fan nearby remarked "Here comes Spider-man part two". However, Paul Bettany, the actor who played Jarvis and Vision in the Marvel-verse, did drop by to put the Soul Stone in the inifinity gauntlet. So there was that.

If anything though, that only strengthened the Reality Fracture-Wandavision ties.
There were no 2027 announcements however, with those likely coming to the MagicCon Amsterdam convention this July.
