Wizards of the Coast is changing how Magic: The Gathering - Arena codes are being handled starting with Aetherdrift's prerelease weekend.
According to a notice provided to Wizards Play Network members, going forward the MTG Arena promo code that appears in every prerelease pack will be automatically added to a player's MTG Arena account rather than that player having to manually input the code themselves. WotC says that the prerelease player rewards could take as many as two weeks to show up in player's MTG Arena inboxes, though.
"With this change, we hope to make MTG Arena rewards more seamless for your community," the company tells WPN members. "This is an early exploration of automatically delivered rewards and we hope to be able to continue and expand on these efforts."
WPN Community Manager, Nelson Brown, expands on this, saying "not only will this make the redemption process easier for qualifying players, it also adds some incentive for players to sign up using their Wizards Account instead of a Guest Account."
Brown's point is important to WPN members as using Wizards Accounts helps to contribute towards that store's engaged player count which, in turn, helps the store reach their required play metrics for WPN membership. And, for players, they won't need to worry about losing the card the MTG Arena code is printed on nor would they need to worry about mis-typing the code when attempting to redeem it.
WotC does point out, though, that players must use the same Wizards Account for both registering for the event and for MTG Arena for the rewards to show up in their account.
The Aetherdrift prerelease runs from Feb. 7 through 13.
