For the 18th year in a row, Magic has released their annual holiday card.
And Magic did what they have been trying to do since Thunder Junction - push the character Loot as a character that they want people love even though they are indifferent to them at best.
But let's back up a bit. Since 2006, we have seen stocking tigers, killer fruitcakes, and other things either based off an existing card and Christmas-ized, or being a wholly original card. In 2022 there was Chaos Wrap, which is based off Chaos Warp. And then last year there was Seasonal Sequels. That one parodied blockbuster movies that come out around Christmas-time.
And, for the second year in a row, it's a completely original card. This one!:
Eggnogger's 'Stache specifically is a 6 land/5 green cost. And it says "Lands you control have “ Refill your mug with a festive drink.” (If you don’t have a mug, go grab a mug! It’s the holidays!) At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you have a drink ‘stache, put two +1/+1 counters on each creature you control."
The flavor text is also fun, saying "Blend dingus egg yolks, milk, Eldraine spice blend, Muragandan vanilla, and absolutely nothing else."
It does feature Loot, a character that hasn't exactly had a good reception since being introduced. But Magic put a lot into cute characters this year, so it makes sense to end the year on them. Plus eggnog...Christmas. It all makes sense.
If you want it, well, unless you work for Wizards or do business with them, chances are you have to wait for the secondary market. Prices usually aren't bad a year or two later - Seasonal Sequels is currently going for between $10-$15 a year later. So either get a job at Wizard's or wait a bit.
