After reported demise, Netflix casts Raise Dead on its Magic: The Gathering series

It looks like the Magic: The Gathering Netflix series is back on.

Announced via Netflix’ Geeked Twitter account, the animated series will feature Terry Matalas as showrunner.

Matalas is known for his work on season three of Star Trek: Picard on Paramount+ as well as SyFy’s 12 Monkeys.  He is also the showrunner for the Marvel/Disney+ series Vision starring Paul Bettany.

As for Netflix’s Magic: The Gathering series, it’s been a bumpy ride since its 2019 announcement.

The series was first being created by the Russo Brothers, only for them to depart from the project due to “creative differences.”  After that, Jeff Kline was installed as the show’s executive producer with Brandon Routh being announced as the series’ lead voice actor.

Just this past week, Routh, in an interview, stated that the project was “not happening.”

The re-ignited Magic: The Gathering series, which is being produced in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast, does not currently have a launch date, nor are any other new details being released at this time.
